I pulled my big rig off I-94 into the truck stop in Battle Creek, Mi. Rolled to a stop in the parking lot, set my air brakes and started loading my pockets with tapes & cd’s. With every pocket stuffed & bulging I headed inside. Once inside I headed upstairs to the drivers lounge. As I hit the top of the stairs I started across the lounge area and noticed only one driver sitting over in the corner reading. So I went on across the room and started putting out the tapes & cd’s I had stuffed in my pockets. After emptying my pockets and placing the tapes & cd’s in a box that said free Gospel Tapes I headed back across the room to the stairs that would take me to the restaurant where I could smell that breakfast sausage cooking.
Just as I was about to head down the stairs God spoke to me and said turn around and go back and talk to that driver in the corner. So I stopped and headed back across the room toward the driver sitting there reading. As I got close to him I noticed he was sitting there reading one of the truckers bibles that is in the lounge. So I sat down next to him and I said, “that’s a good book you’re reading”. He said yeah I been reading it a lot lately, you know I’m not a Christian but I sure believe in God. I said really well tell me what’s going on in your life that’s got you reading the bible lately. And he just started opening up and telling me his life story. The same story I hear so many times from drivers out here on this Ole Lonesome Road. About a broken marriage, drugs alcohol, money problems the stress of life. How he was and the end of his road and didn’t know which way to turn. He confessed to me he had tried to kill him self by running a hose from his exhaust inside his cab he was going to gas him self to death. I said driver I don’t know if you know this or not but diesel fumes don’t put off carbon monoxide, diesel fumes all they will do is make you sick. He said well it sure did that it made me really sick. I said driver I know how you feel I came to the same place you are at back in August of 1995. Then I started sharing my testimony with this driver .I told him my life story and how I too had come to the end of my road. And how God had sent a man to witness to me to share with me the love of His Son Jesus and to tell me the story of how he had died for my sins so that I could be saved. I told him how God had just turned me around and sent me back to talk with him and share that same story with him. How the bible says that none is righteous no not one. I showed him where it says in Romans 3:23; where all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,
The wages of sin is death Romans 6:23; And death is eternal separation from God and an eternity in Hell. I showed him in the bible he had been reading How God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believed in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16; I told Him God had made a way for us and I showed him John 14:6; Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me. I said: Jesus is the only way, there is no hope without Jesus. Then he said to me I want to be saved but I just don’t know how. So I opened the bible to Romans chapter 10: verse 9 and I had him read: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. 13. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. After he finished reading these verses I said lets get on our knees right here in this drivers room and you can pray and ask Jesus to come into your heart and save you. So we got on our knees and he prayed a simple little prayer and ask Jesus to forgive him his sins and to come into his heart.
When we stood up we both had tears in our eyes and we were both praising the Lord. We walked out of that drivers room brothers in Christ. I took him out to my truck where I gave him lots of tapes and we said our good byes. I later got a letter from this man thanking me and he wanted more tapes to pass out. So we sent him a whole box of tapes to listen to and pass out. A few months back I got a phone call from my brother telling me he had found a great church close to where he lives and he had just be baptized. He said he knew he was in the right church cause when he walked in the doors it sounded like the tapes that he had been listening too. I thank God for my new brother Terry from Ontario Canada I know he is doing well. God Bless you my brother, please stay in touch. Talk at you later……..…
